Fairtrasa Group expands into China

Fairtrasa, a leading organic and fairtrade fruit producer and seller, recently expanded into Asia with the formation of Fairtrasa China. Based in Shanghai, Fairtrasa China will import fruit products from Fairtrasa supply companies and sell them in China and other Asian markets. Sophia Cai, co-founded Fairtrasa China and will serve as its Country Manager.

The launch of Fairtrasa China continues the global expansion of Fairtrasa Group, a social enterprise whose mission is to empower small-scale farmers in developing countries. In addition to China, Fairtrasa has its own import offices in Europe, the UK and the US.

"A presence in China is key to our global strategy," said Fairtrasa Group's founder, Patrick Struebi. "It expands and diversifies our market, and will be highly beneficial to all the small-scale farmers we represent, and will help us continue growing as a social enterprise. Fairtrasa China is seeking a first-mover advantage in what promises to be a booming Chinese market for organics”.

"China is one of the markets of the future for safe, healthy, organic fruit, and we're positioning ourselves early to capture that growth when it comes. Just as Fairtrasa was a pioneer of organic and fairtrade in Latin America and Europe, we want to be pioneers in China and the Asia region."

Cai, who was Lead Buying Manager for Global Food Sourcing in Asia while at Tesco, is confident that Fairtrasa's brands will appeal to the Chinese consumer. "Food safety is the number one concern for the Chinese customer, due to a series of food quality issues in the country in the last few years. I believe Fairtrasa, a leading organic fruit supplier in the world, will be able to provide an excellent source of confidence to the Chinese consumer with our products and services."
