AIGN® brings diversity to South Korean Market

While it’s the newest member of Associated International Group of Nurseries (AIGN®), S.T. ASIA has years of experience and a wide ranging product line giving it the ability to provide a multifaceted service to the fruit industry in the Republic of South Korea.

Under the direction of Kim Hee Jeung, President, S.T. ASIA in Gangnam-GU and formerly known as N.Z. Orchard, the company has a major business focus of propagation and commercialization of new fruit varieties. S.T. Asia also distributes fresh produce throughout the nation.

According to Hee Jeung, the company is currently working with contracted Korean growers involving around 100 Hectares of ENVY Apples and 50 Hectares of the cherry/plum hybrid known as Nadia.

One example demonstrating its new connection to AIGN®, S.T. ASIA is excited to now have Reddy Robin™ PremP109 cv. out of quarantine. One of the first interspecific hybrids of Chinese and Japanese pears to be commercialized, around 600 PremP109 trees will be grafted during the coming year.

All of this fits well with the overall plan S.T. ASIA has established as it believes the time has come to introduce value-added and market-oriented varieties to Korean growers with AIGN® being an important factor in its success.

Hee Jeung says its ties to AIGN® also brings important intellectual property access into the mix for growers as the future will see the ability for S.T. ASIA to leverage that knowledge with the availability of additional new varieties.

S.T. Asia continues to maintain its business diversity in the importation of fresh produce from Chile, Italy, South Africa, USA and Thailand. Directly supplying major retailers, it introduced the first branded Chilean Kiwifruit into Korea and also provides blueberries, table grapes, mangoes and cherries.

In partnership with Park Jong Eun, CEO at S.T. ASIA, Hee Jeung previously worked for ten years as Country Manager for ZESPRI Int. now known as NZ Kiwifruit Company.
