Interpoma: meeting point for apple industry
Associated International Group of Nurseries (AIGN®) and its members have found it necessary to attend this very important show and collectively work together to represent various programs to the industry.
Members in attendance this year included Florent Geerdens, René Nicolai, Belgium; Juan Martin Rosauer, Los Alamos De Rosauer, Argentina; Juan Enrique Concha Ureta, Viveros Requinoa, Chile; Horacio Reyes, Los Horneros Vivero de Frutales, Uruguay; Rob Meihuizen and Peter Allderman, Topfruit, South Africa; Dominique Thévenon, Executive Secretary of AIGN® and AIGN® representative of CIOPORA.
Known as the international trade show for apple cultivation, storage and marketing, this biannual event featured an impressive 423 exhibitors from 20 different countries. AIGN® was one of those as in the booth of Rene Nicolai but thanks to its very nature, it alone represented an association with ten members.
An example of a new opportunity, Geerdens introduced the AIGN® members to a scab resistant apple named Natyra® from Fresh Forward. The first commercial plantings of this apple occurred in Germany in 2011. German organic growers have planted about 500,000 trees.
Interpoma also prides itself on being the originator of such events of this sector in the world. Its trade fair has now extended to over a 25,000 m2 area. The show hosts actors from the entire supply chain of fruit from cultivation, to storage, and marketing of new introductions.
Another AIGN member at the show was Star Fruits®, its representative in France.
