Spain: Bell pepper prices increase slightly

The drop in temperatures is leading to moderate price increases. Bell peppers register one of the highest increases, although other vegetables, like long cucumber, remain at the same level as in previous weeks.

Green beans continue to be the most expensive. Helda beans reached between 3.20 and 2 Euro per kilo; the Strike is sold for an average of 2.80 Euro; the Emerite is traded at an average of 1.90 Euro and the Long Perona reaches initial prices of 2.60 Euro and final sales at 2 Euro per kilo. Courgette prices have slightly increased; both the thin and thick are sold for 0.25 to 0.40 Euro per kilo.

Long cucumbers are still stagnating, at prices below 0.25 Euro and final sales at 0.10 Euro per kilo. French cucumbers are sold for between 0.70 and 55 cents, and short black has a first price of 60 cents and last cuts of 0.30 Euro. Meanwhile, aubergines have dropped this week. Long aubergine stands below 0.30 Euro, with final sales at 0.18 Euro. Striped aubergine reaches initial prices of 0.85 Euro and final sales at around 0.70 Euro per kilo.

Tomato prices have dropped over the past seven days. Pear tomatoes reached between 0.65 and 0.40 Euro. On the vine tomatoes have reached initial prices of 0.80 Euro and final sales at around 0.67 Euro, while green long life tomatoes have reached an average of 0.55 Euro per kilo. Lamuyo Green peppers remain stable at prices ranging from 0.60 to 0.48 Euro per kilo. The Red Lamuyo has not changed compared to last week, with initial prices of 0.95 Euro and final sales at 0.70 Euro per kilo.

Bell pepper prices have reacted positively to the falling temperatures. The yellow reached initial prices of 0.50 Euro and final sales at 0.38 Euro per kilo. Red bell peppers have registered initial prices of 0.80 Euro and final sales at 0.65 Euro. Green bell peppers reached an average of 0.55 Euro per kilo. In the coming weeks, prices are expected to continue increasing; however, greenhouses have large volumes of produce to be harvested due to the low prices registered so far, and if many decide to start harvesting, pepper prices could again be driven down.
