Filipino bongolan organic banana farming boosted
True to his promise to help farmers venture on Bongolan banana farming, the local government chief executive also approved recently an allocation of P500,000 for the production of additional tissue cultured plantlets.
The initial allocation has generated about 46,000 tissue cultured plantlets which were distributed to 56 farmer beneficiaries. About 73.36 hectares were planted with the banana plantlets.
The initial Bongolan plantlets are now productive and became the source of the 57,766.5 metric tons export to Japan with the help of private company Don Bosco.
Aside from partnering with Don Bosco based at Barangay Batasan, an LGU team led by Mayor Caoagdan also visited the Techno Demo Farm of Organic Fertilizer Production for Banana Plantation located at Panabo, Davao del Norte last November 11, 2014.
The visit aimed to acquire technical know-how and understanding of organic fertilizer production and other potential possibilities in replicating the technology for Makilala banana growers.
Mayor Caoagdan added that for the year 2014, he added this allocation of Php 500,000 for additional tissue cultured plantlets production as they are targeting to plant a 30-hectare land that would benefit 50 more farmers.
