Copa-Cogeca: move unused part of EU support over to 2015
European agricultural organization Copa-Cogeca calls on the European Commission to use the unused part of the compensation budget next year. Under the first 125 million Euro compensation budget, initially many more claims came in than there was money. After a revision, there is now less than 40 million Euro’ worth of justified claims by member states. Copa-Cogeca proposes to use the difference in 2015 for extra support to the sector. That the claims come out so much lower, is a result of the short period in which claims had to be filed and verified, and compensation for vegetable growers was said to be too low to win them over, according to Copa-Cogeca.
Protest Polish apple growers
Polish apple growers took to the streets in Warsaw, to demand better compensation for the losses caused by the boycott. According to the growers, no country can take on the 3 million tonnes of apples. So the growers are fearing big losses, demanding more compensation, to turn the apples into biogas, for instance.
Moscow hosts ‘Morocco’s Grand Export Festival’
Between November 6 and 20, Maroc Export, the organization that promotes Moroccan export, is organizing ‘Morocco’s Grand Export Festival’ in Moscow. During the event, Moroccan products will be introduced in Russia. 26 companies are participating in the event, and they will offer their produce in various parts of the capital.
Fruit cheaper in Ukraine
According to Fruit-Inform data, fruit prices went down by 14.4% in Ukraine last month. Lemons saw the sharpest decrease, with 30%. The decreasing prices were caused by stabilization of the Ukrainian currency, and an increased supply of citrus from the northern hemisphere. Apples also got cheaper, because of the overly large supply following the Russian boycott.
Price fluctuations in Perm
In the Perm region, in Central Russia, fruit and vegetable prices have changed substantially last month, statistics show. Some products got cheaper, while others significantly increased in price. Cabbage, potatoes, beetroot, carrots and garlic were cheaper compared to September. On the other hand, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions increased in price, by 54%, 64% and 6.6% respectively. Bananas and grapes also became more expensive. Those prices went up by 4.8% and 3.7%. Lemon prices went down by 34.8%. Oranges and pears were 3% cheaper. The average price for groceries remained the same, however, at 2800 roubles (55 Euro) per person.
Russia wants trade with Syria
The government of the Adygea republic wants to establish trade relations with Syria. The responsible ministers of both republics met to discuss trade relations. The talks were part of a meeting of the permanent Russian-Syrian Committee. Adygea wants to export products including sunflower oil, and to import Syrian fresh produce. Both parties have big expectations.
100 ha greenhouses in Ural
The Minister of Agriculture of the Sverdlovsk republic announced plans to build a greenhouse with an area of 100 ha. Construction of the modern greenhouse is estimated to be 22 billion roubles (423 million Euro). Greenhouse vegetables from other republics are cheaper, and because of less expensive energy supply, greenhouse cultivation in Sverdlovsk is to make the region self-sufficient.
Russia allocates subsidies
The Russian Ministry of Agriculture recently decided upon allocation of subsidies for agricultural development in 2014. The proposal was adopted by the government. The budget amounts to 817.7 million roubles (15 million Euro) for 23 regional projects. The total budget of the federal and regional governments amounts to 1.94 billion roubles (38.4 million Euro). The money will be spent on construction and renovation of greenhouses, with a total area of 170.1 ha.
