Romania: Agricover to supply 150,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables in 5 years

Over the next five years, the Romanian company Agricover, which manages the brand "Dor de gust", will supply over 150,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables produced by Romanian growers to international retailer chains present in Romania, stated its CEO Robert Arsene.

"Dor de gust" fruits and vegetables are currently available at six international chain stores, namely Auchan, Carrefour, Cora, Kaufland, Lidl and Selgros.

Over 2,750 tonnes of fruits and vegetables have been supplied so far through the programme launched in June. Of this, 2,500 tonnes correspond to fruit and only 280 tonnes to vegetables. "The vegetable production had been planned a year earlier; we delivered what growers had available, therefore, as of now we have to start planning next year's production," added Robert Arsene.

By the end of this year, the total volume could reach 4,500 tonnes, with high harvest volumes of cabbage and potatoes.

Currently, 340 growers supply their products to the "Dor de gust" brand, totalling 2,200 hectares of vegetables and 2,000 hectares of fruit.

Agricover provides these growers with logistical, technical and financial support. Each case with the "Dor de gust" label includes the farm's name when palletised to ensure traceability.

With a turnover of 1.1 billion Lei in 2013 (248.8 million Euro) and over 600 employees, Agricover is one of the leading providers of complete solutions for growers.
