Nunes announces national launch of Foxy organic BroccoLeaf

As media, the produce industry, and consumers continue to speculate about the next hot vegetable trend, for the last month, fresh produce leader The Nunes Company, has been quietly shipping a new organic non-GMO vegetable called BroccoLeaf™ to stores across America.

For years, American produce growers have utilized broccoli leaves to cleanse and nourish soil. Yet, the leaves were widely overlooked as a standalone culinary vegetable. What proved to be good for the Earth is also good for the body, as BroccoLeaf is a magical and delicious superfood veggie. The organic Foxy BroccoLeaf contains all major vitamin, mineral and health benefits of broccoli – widely considered the crown vegetable of health – but has a lighter and sweeter taste than its predecessor.

Among the significant health attributes:
  • Organic BroccoLeaf provides an Excellent source of Calcium
  • Delivers an adult dose of Vitamin C
  • Packed with Folate (a key nutrient for heart health and pregnancy)
  • Loaded with phytonutrients which contain the heroes of detoxification (the 3 cancer fighting Glucosinates)
Foxy’s discovery of the BroccoLeaf happened serendipitously though is in keeping with the Company’s long-standing practice of promoting full-utilization. In the summer of 2014, Foxy launched a series of free juicing activations at retailers across America called “REJUICENATE With Foxy” to teach the public how to juice produce without wasting food. During the recipe testing process, a Foxy employee proposed incorporating organic broccoli leaves. And, it made for a refreshing, delicious, juiced drink. “We are big advocates of full produce consumption which is why we started experimenting with broccoli leaves. But, the health findings and taste even took us by surprise. We know how fantastic broccoli leaves are for the soil, but nobody considered it a viable produce item. Everyone in our industry’s been trying to find the next kale, and BroccoLeaf has been staring all of us in the face for decades,” says Foxy Vice President of Operations Tom Nunes V.

In celebration of its launch, Foxy will debut a number of original BroccoLeaf recipes, with the help of BroccoLeaf spokesperson Ashley Koff RD, to educate the public about the many ways organic BroccoLeaf can be prepared and enjoyed. All recipes can be found on Foxy's website and on its social media channels.

Foxy will also launch a companion social media campaign encouraging the public to make and share their original BroccoLeaf creations on their personal social platforms as well as BroccoLeaf’s social media pages. The best recipes will then be personally selected and incorporated into a forthcoming cookbook.

“It’s incredibly rare, in this day and age, to be able to introduce a new non-GMO organic vegetable into the market. We believe the potential for BroccoLeaf is massive and are very excited about consumers’ and retailers’ responses," says Foxy Vice President of Marketing Matt Seeley.
