Austria: potato supply sufficient despite barriers to harvesting

Rainfall in the last few days has interrupted harvesting all throughout Austria, reports the Duitse Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) (German Agricultural Market Information Service) on their website. Despite a lack of new crops, buyers potato warehouses are still filled. Sale of the early varieties will be, for the most part, closed.

Good harvest volumes are expected for the main varieties. In contrast to the early and late varieties, the proportion of excessively large potatoes is expected to be low.
Sales before September were very satisfying. Ongoing actions in the food sector provides the necessary impetus. Export is also possible when price concessions are made. Producers prices remain because of the pressure on the rich supply.

Medium sized potatoes in East Austria currently cost between 8.00 and 10.00 Euro per 100 kg. Excessively large potatoes are still between 3.00 and 6.00 Euro per 100 kg. In
Steiermark growers prices for medium sized potatoes range between 9.00 and 12.00 Euro per 100 kg. In Oberösterreich pre-peeled potatoes were stable at 12.00 Euro per 100 kg.
