Uzbekistan will double fruit and vegetable export into Russia

By the end of 2016, Uzbekistan may double the export volumes of fruit and vegetables into Russia, i.e. 500 000 tonnes per year, - informs the official representative of the Ministry of Agriculture in Uzbekistan - Olimba Artykov. According to him, last year the export of fruit and vegetables into Russia from Uzbekistan equalled 200 000 tonnes, totalling approximately to 300 million dollars; and this year the export is believed to increase by 50-70 000 tonnes, and thus, reach 400 million dollars.

According to the representative of the Ministry, 80% of the total exports of Uzbek fruit and vegetables go to Russia. It is emphasized that last year Uzbekistan overcame Spain, Poland, Italy, Argentina, and Morocco in export sales of fruit and vegetables to Russia.

At the same time, the main deterrents of export increase have been mentioned. They are: the technical condition of specialized trucks in Uzbekistan, and strict measures of quarantine security at the customs of Russia.

It has been previously reported that Uzbekistan is currently a net exporter of food products (primarily - fruit and vegetables), worth of 5 billion dollars. Moreover, within last three years, the export volumes of agricultural products increased by more than three times. In total, the republic of Uzbekistan exports into 80 countries over 180 types of fresh and processed fruit and vegetables.
