Moldova will ship apples to largest Romanian retailers

Supply agreements are soon to be concluded between Moldovan suppliers and large Romanian retailers Carrefour and Metro. Meanwhile, Romanian government is preparing another ‘pleasant surprise’ for Moldovan fruit producers, - the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova, Vlad Login, has informed.

‘I do not want to reveal the secret yet, but it is expected that between 20th and 27th of August Romania will make an important announcement’, - Login has stated.
It has also been emphasized that Moldovan farmers should not restrict themselves by the European market limits, e.g. export quotes of 80 000 tonnes of apples. If their local fruit meets the European standard, it will be in demand in the North American market as well. Moreover, the logistics costs will not total to more than transportation to some remote regions of Russia. The deputy head of the Ministry of Agriculture said that Moldovan producers have the opportunity to get EU funding for packing, sorting fruit, and improving product quality.

It is to be recalled that on August 14th, the fourth international conference "Apple Business of Ukraine-2014" will take place in Vinnitsa, Ukraine. The consequences of Russian embargo on Moldovan and Polish apples are to be discussed.
