Egypt to create open markets with fruit and vegetables at discount prices

The Egyptian Minister of Supply and Trade, Khaled Hanafi, has announced the creation of open markets all across the country specialised in the sale of fruit and vegetables at discount prices, where citizens will be able to purchase produce directly from growers, thereby reducing middleman and logistics costs.

For their part, traders expressed their willingness to create new processing plants for the production of fruit juices and tomato sauce, with the goal of preventing waste. The Minister offered to contribute in the construction of these plants and agreed to hold a meeting with producers this week to agree on the details, as well as on the establishment of the vegetable and fruit markets.
