Man arrested after eating bananas

Eating a banana that wasn’t paid for led to felony charges against a 33-year-old man, on Sunday.

A security officer at Walmart in the 1200 block of Flour Bluff Drive saw a man and a woman eat bananas before paying for them about 8:25 p.m., police said. The guard directed them to a self-checkout line, but they were verbally abusive as items were being scanned at about 8:25 p.m., according to a police news release.

Security then directed the two to the business’ loss prevention office when the man grabbed the security officer to pull her away. The man and the woman then left the business in a car, the police news release states.

Police later found the 33-year-old man at the address the vehicle was registered to. The man ran inside a mobile home and used physical force to resist arrest, according to the police news release.

Casey Raines was arrested on suspicion of robbery, a second degree felony, and evading arrest and resisting arrest, both Class A misdemeanours.

He remained at Nueces County Jail on Monday with bail set at $1,000.
