Poland: Citronex builds large greenhouse complex in Bogatynia
The construction of a modern complex of greenhouses for year-round cultivation was started by Citronex in 2013. Sources from the company affirm that everything is going according to plan. "We are almost ready with the energy infrastructure and are about to start installing the glass. Soon we will begin recruiting labourers," affirms Artur Toronowski. The greenhouses will ultimately have a total of 100 hectares.
The company says that innovative technologies are being implemented. Modern greenhouses are much larger and higher than those built years ago; they are energy efficient and can contain different climates. The close proximity of the power plant will not affect the crops. Greenhouses will use residual heat, which comes from the production of electricity.
"The tomatoes grown in Bogatynia's complex will be much cheaper than those imported. Additionally, we will also have Polish tomatoes in the winter season, when they are usually imported from Morocco or Spain," reports the president Raphael Zarzecki. "In Poland, these tomatoes will go mainly to supermarkets and discount stores."
