The company handles mainly the Victoria variety (60%), followed by Balck Magic (20%) and seedless grapes (20%) for a total of 1,200 tons. "The domestic market demands higher Brix levels with respect to Northern Europe. Demand is also good for grapes with seeds and grades and aroma are always excellent around here."
Prices are also looking good. "We are practically alone on the market this time of year, also thanks to the fact that Egyptian grapes are smaller and less tasty. Puglia won't start harvesting before a few weeks and Spain also lacks greenhouse early varieties."
Grapes are harvested and packed directly on fields, except those that end up in punnets (500g to 1kg) or bags (800g). The most popular packaging in 30x40 (5kh), 30x50 (7kg) and 40x60 (10 kg) crates.
"Growing produce in greenhouses means we can use less phytosanitary treatments. We are thus talking about a produce with very few active principles and zero residues."
In the meantime, the watermelon and apricot campaigns are also under way. In particular, watermelons are harvested in the Marsala area as fruits grow with better organoleptic qualities over there.
"The apricots are part of the "Cot" series and this year we should produce around 150 tons of them."
The company also produces blond oranges (Ovale variety) - "an ancient cultivar that we are trying to protect to safeguard biodiversity.
