UK: Pumpkin and squash trial to be held by Tozer Seeds

With the ever increasing popularity of Halloween, it has now become retailers' third biggest money spending event on the calendar, only behind Christmas and Easter.

Tozer Seeds is the leading supplier for pumpkins in the UK and we are working with some of the prominent pumpkin breeders from around the globe to provide market leading Halloween pumpkins such as Racer, and Mars. We are currently carrying out our own breeding work to develop earlier maturing, longer storing varieties with good strong handles and Powdery Mildew resistance. We are also looking to breed varieties with a smaller plant habit equals more yield per acre.

We currently offer a full range of pumpkins from table top size for decoration up to the giant varieties for exhibitions and displays.

Pumpkin Racer F1
- A consistent, high yielding pumpkin. 7kg to 9kg round fruits with good colour and strong handles. Semi-bush variety which matures early.

Pumpkin Mars - Early cropping semi-bush type. Fruits are 2kg to 4kg, dark orange with a very good handle and very uniform. High yielding in trials. Mars is very reliable and adaptable variety.

NEW Pumpkin Polar Bear F1
- A large, true white pumpkin that stays white at maturity. 13kg-18kg fruits.

Butternut Varieties
Butternut Hunter - Bred by us for the Northern European climate. Up to four weeks earlier to harvest than American hybrids. Fruits average 800g to 1kg with a very high level of marketable fruits and a heavy total yield.

Butternut Sweetmax - Large fruited early maturing variety, producing around three 3kg fruits per plant with great internal colour and flavour.

Butternut Walnut F1
- One of the most popular American varieties due to its ideal processing size and small seed cavity. Fruits range from 1.8kg-2kg and are extremely uniform.

Butternut Hercules F1 - Large fruited variety bred for the Northern European climate. Fruits weigh an average of 1.2kg. Hercules is well suited to the catering market where larger fruits are needed. Good internal colouring and strong skin.

Due to the huge selection of pumpkin and squash varieties we now have available we will be hosting a pumpkin and squash trial at our Ockham site in Surrey on Wednesday 8th October 2014 from 10am until 3pm. The trials will include over 200 varieties of pumpkin and squash and will be the largest event of its type ever hosted by a UK seed company.
