Dutch pears christened in China

After years of preparation on the part of the Dutch government and the Working Group "China Pears" of Frugi Venta and the NFO, on 24 May, the official introduction of Dutch pears into the Chinese market became a reality. It is an important milestone for the Dutch top fruit sector, on behalf of which Fruitmasters and The Greenery brought together thousands of visitors interested in becoming acquainted with Dutch pears.

This memorable event took place on 24 May at the International Horticultural Exhibition in Qingdao and featured the baptism of the first Dutch Conference pears delivered straight to China.

Mr. Lapperre, Dep. Director General for Agriculture of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Mr Han ShouXing, Deputy Secretary General of Qingdao Municipal Government, baptised together the pears with champagne.

Then, Leonard Kampschöer of Fruitmasters and Bert Wilschut of The Greenery handed the first box of pears to their future Chinese clients.

China is a market with enormous potential which could grow significantly in the coming years, as the Chinese are fond of European pears. Fruitmasters and The Greenery have deposited their full confidence in it.
