New cold storage, wholesale outlet opens in Jalandhar
IG International Pvt Ltd., one of the oldest fresh produce companies in India, opened the 20,000 square foot facility located inside the Jalandhar fresh produce market on March 21. The facility will sell a wide range of imported fresh produce, and, just as importantly, it will improve the ability of IG to deliver fresh produce to businesses in the area.
“Currently, imported produce comes from Delhi in non-refrigerated trucks,” said Tarun Arora, CEO of IG International. “This not only increases the price of fresh produce but also has a big impact on quality. Henceforth, IG will use reefer trucks from Mumbai to Jalandhar, which will save on logistics costs and will maintain the quality of produce and ensure consumers get better products at better prices.”
This is IG’s ninth cold storage facility in the country, with three more under construction that will open later this year. IG already has 22 operational wholesale outlets across India for the marketing of imported fresh produce. At the facility's inauguration, Jang Bahudar Sangha, a potato seed grower with over 6,000 acres of cultivation in the area, extolled the benefits the new addition to the market will bring.
“IG International has fulfilled the long-pending demand of citizens of Jalandhar,” said Sangha. “Now the citizens neither have to go to any other city nor depend on any other state for high-quality, exotic fruit.”
