Zweer van Aalsburg, Fruitmasters:

"EU:"Wide sales top fruit, both domestic market and export"

Topfruit sales are progressing very fast at the moment. Explains Zweer van Aalsburg of Fruitmasters. "Mainly in the domestic market things are picking up. In addition we have some campaigns planned but there is a good demand from the export destinations. Lots of pears are going to Russia but the pears are actually consumed really well all throughout Europe".

"The German market has less apples at their disposal and because of this the demand on the German market is increasing. The import apples that are slowly coming in are mostly smaller apples. So we are also ahead on this. You can see those producer countries exporting more towards markets like Asia. So for the time being there is little pressure from apples from overseas.

The prices of pears are for the 55'ers and 65'ers respectively on a level between the 50-55 cents and 68-70 cents. The prices of the Elstar is increasing to a price level between 75-80 cents for the 65'ers, between the 70-80 cents, for the 70'ers, between 75-80 cents, for the 75'ers and a price between 70-85 cents, for the 80'ers. The price of the 85'ers has somewhat increased with a price between the 45 and 51 cents.

Zweer is expecting a stable market for the Jonagold in the first week and for the Elstar and Conference pears a mild increase. "We will keep a close eye on the conflict between the EU and Russia, just as the devaluation of the ruble. It could have a considerable impact on the sales of Conference pears at the moment if the borders should close. But for now we can be looking forward to widely spread sales."
