new cooling area and ripening cells

LBP celebrates 20th anniversary with countless novelties

2014 is the year in which LBP Rotterdam BV, the logistic service supplier from Maasdijk will celebrate its 20th anniversary. A period in which it has managed to develop into a leading logistic service supplier in the fruit and vegetable sector, specialised in dealing with fresh exotic fruit that arrives in Holland from all over the world by container or by air.

The fruit is received, declared, checked for quality and stored in the cooling centre in Maasdijk, before it is transported to the final destination. Packaging and repackaging work is also done here.
There are a number of developments planned for its 20th year in existence, which indicates that this company is always looking towards the future.
Over the next week the newest extensions of facilities will be completed.

Four years ago the cooling storage area was already doubled, and this time a new cooling area has been built on the first floor next to the packaging facilities, which should once again make space for around 400 pallets.
This will bring the total area to 3500 pallets spaces. At the beginning of June a number of brand new ripening cells will also be completed in LBP's pilots at Honderland. "The market in general and our customers in particular have been asking for this extension for a while," says Anton Filippo of LBP. "And as we only had a limited ripening capacity available for a large customer, we both had to and wanted to make this choice."

The development of the ripening cells has been completed and the state of the art cells could be ready before the summer. This means that the demand from customers, ripening mangos, avocados and kiwis, and also stonefruit, can immediately be met to a large extent. The LBP party in 2014 will be enlivened by a significant extension of the packaging lines. Besides the already existing packaging lines, such as those for citrus and cherries, the development will continue over the coming year and a specific extension is planned for mid September.

Filippo continues: "We are an exotics specialist and the demand from the market was such that we couldn't avoid meeting this demand suitably. As it stands it seems this will be handled in the third quarter of this year," he hopes. What this extension will include and what it will look like will be announced by LBP Rotterdam later in this year! "Meanwhile there is a party in Maasdijk, not just because of the 20th anniversary or all of the wonderful plans to be put into action, but also because LBP still defines itself as leading in the fresh logistics market as a BRC and ILS certified service provider. A growing number of clients recognising this status, speaks for itself. This in itself is a reason to celebrate and we certainly will," concludes Anton Filippo.
