Direct railway connection through the Alps

EU: Fresh cargo from Amsterdam to Milan in 21 hours via railway

On Monday, third of March, the new rail shuttle from Herik Rail was officially launched. This new rail shuttle makes it possible to transport (fresh) cargo from Amsterdam to Milan in just 21 hours. Karla Peijs, former minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management carried out the opening ceremony. Herik Rail will use three shuttles of cargo trains on the new route. One set will be located at the USA Terminal in the port of Amsterdam, one will be on the way and one will be at the terminal in Milan. Therefore there will be no delays loading and unloading cargo. On top of this Herik Cargo also offers door-to-door solutions.

Departure
From Amsterdam: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
From Milan: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

Arrival
In Milan: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
In Amsterdam: Wednesday, Friday and Sunday

The new rail shuttle from Herik Rail connects the port of Amsterdam directly through the Alps. Now fresh flowers from Aalsmeer, agricultural products, fish from IJmuiden, but also electronics or pharmaceuticals e.g can be transported directly to Milan and Italian leather goods make their way back to Amsterdam. The new Amsterdam-Milan railway connection offers companies which export to or import from Italy new opportunities.

The new direct rail shuttle to Milan offers a perfect alternative for road transport to Northern Italy. Companies no longer have to depend on trucks which have to deal with traffic jams, waiting times at the border, nightly driving bans and ever increasing prices of diesel. In addition to this, transport by train is much more sustainable. C02-emissions are only a fraction of those of road transportation. This appeals particularly to other companies that strive for sustainability.

Whether you want to transport of flowers, fish, vegetables, electronics, machines or pharmaceuticals, it makes no difference for Herik Rail. The company can deal with all sorts of cargo. Their motto: anything can be transported by train, as long as it fits in a container. The following containers can be placed on our rail shuttle: 20ft, 30ft, 40ft(hc/reefer) and all profiles up to PC380.
