Chile presents its new table grape varieties

Consortium Biofrutales presented their new table grape varieties during a tour through their gardens, which also included the towns of Vicuña and Los Andes, and a picnic in El Tambo. This tour gave attendees the opportunity of seeing the vines behaviour in different areas, from Region IV to Region VI.

The Consortium presented the INIAgrape -One, which is already in its commercial plantations stage, the Illusion-INIA variety, and three other advanced selections: INIA -10, INIA -5, and INIA- 78.8. These varieties were the result of the two projects funded by Biofrutales and Innova Chile: The Genetic Program for the Development of New Table Grape Varieties for the National and International Market Project, and the Business Scaling and Development of Technology to Optimize the Competitiveness of the Chilean Table Grape Varieties obtained by INIA.

The Andes New Varieties Administration Company (ANA- Chile) manages this program's global commercial rights. In Chile, the INIAgrape-One licensed plants can be obtained via the export companies involved in the project or in nurseries accredited by ANA- Chile. Their production area is limited and royalties must be paid. They are contemplating sending this variety to different countries, both in the southern and northern hemispheres, so there would be supply throughout the whole year.
