Dti South Africa putting exporters in the spotlight
This is done by working to build an equitable multilateral trading system that facilitates development, strengthens trade and investment links with key economies. "We organise South African Pavilions at various trade fairs worldwide, not only for fresh produce but for all aspects of South African exports."
When organising the pavilions, the dti take companies from South Africa to the events and invite foreign buyers to the stand through a network of connections in Embassies and Foreign Offices, appointments with buyers are also set up. According to Gordon these pavilions are one of the most effective methods to promote South African companies.
Ernest Moagi, Director of Export Marketing at the dti, explains that in addition to the pavilions, trade missions are also set up. These are outward and inward trade missions where B2B meetings are set up.
"In the case of outward selling missions companies are matched between the dti and the local Embassy. On the inward trade missions foreign buyers are invited to South Africa to meet suppliers, this is often done at trade fairs throughout the country," explains Mr Moagi.
This year the dti will organise around 26 national pavilions and 40 trade missions.
