Indian grape volumes building to fill the gap

The Indian grape export is underway, volumes will now build quickly throughout February.

Volumes should be slightly up on last year, but according to Nina Patel from Fresh Express this will not be hugely noticeable at the traditional destination like the UK and Rotterdam due to a greater spread of receiving points.

"Quality will be better in comparison to last year due to increased focus and investments in weather monitoring, spray technologies, close interaction between stakeholders research institutions, government, growers and input from suppliers. Training of manpower and knowledge sharing at all levels are also helping improve quality and quality assurance," explains Nina.

The weather conditions during the growing season have been a bit up and down according to Nina, the overall quality of the fruit has been positive. "With better quality fruit combined with getting it to different markets faster, the market outlook is positive."

The main variety from India continues to be Thompson Seedless but of late shipments of Black Seedless are on the rise to selective markets. This season India will ship upwards of 4000 containers, Fresh Express expect to ship around 100 of these to destinations like the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Russia, Singapore, Scandinavia and Switzerland.

With difficult conditions in both Chile and South Africa the bigger volumes of Indian grapes will certainly be welcome on the markets.

Fresh Express are a fully, family owned, grower and exporter of grapes, pomegranates and other fresh fruits from their own and partner farms in India and have been shipping consistently, for the last 20 years, increasing volumes to the EU every year.

Fresh Express export under the UniGrape brand.

Fresh Express will be present at Fruit Logistica, Berlin on 5/6/7 Feb, Hall 5.2, C - 11
