INFIA takes innovative packaging of fruits and vegetables to Fruit Logistica
During the Berlin trade show, INFIA will be located in Hall 21, stands C12 and C13. In its stand, INFIA will present to the public two most important innovations: high quality printing directly on the plastic crates and the new Supercleaning Process, already approved by the European Food Safety Authority EFSA that allows companies to produce baskets 100% with recycled PET (RPET), according to European norms.
This is a further step towards the innovation in products and processes. An attitude that characterizes this company from Romagna since its birth, 65 years ago. In recent years, INFIA has invested heavily in new technologies and cutting edge systems, in order to give to the production process the highest standards of safety and environmental sustainability.
According to the mission of the company, aimed at a "green " economy , INFIA has recently completed the authorization process by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) of its "Supercleaning Process". This new process is the result of three decades of experience working with PET.
With the obtained approval, the company is now authorized to operate independently using its own internal process - registered as RECYC077. A process that guarantees the safe and sustainable use of 100% recycled material. This new internal process is eco-sustainable, reducing the use of virgin plastic. Avoiding therefore environmental impacts linked to the extraction and refinement of new material. It also brings benefits under the form of reduced energy consumption, less use of other resources and lower emission of greenhouse gases. Without increasing costs to consumers, since the cost of the process is offset by not using virgin PET.
INFIA is the world leader among companies producing packaging, offering a solution to print full-colour and high quality directly on the surface of the basket. This new generation technology enables customization and promotion of brand and company that has no equal in the marketplace. And showing some unique advantages: unlike other technologies such as heat transfer, linings, bands etc., no materials have to be added to the packaging, therefore reducing costs and environmental impact. Maintaining unchanged, at the same time, the technical – regarding stacking - and hygienic characteristics of the baskets.
Deepening in environmental sustainability, the commitment of INFIA has focused on improving the shelf life of traded horticultural products through a new side ventilation system in the basket - called "F concept". A better aeration of the basket allows the product to cool more rapidly and thus slow down the process of fruit ripening and, as a consequence, reduce waste.
Today "food waste" is a very topical issue. It is considered by public opinion and institutions - the European Union and the United Nations, in first place – one of the new emergencies. Every year, and only in Italy, 260,000 tons of food are wasted along the distribution chain. 40% of that waste is fresh produce. The INFIA baskets have a positive influence on the conservation of fruit and vegetables, reducing the percentage of waste that also causes severe economic damage to retailers. Waste is an important negative factor preventing, the sustainable development of business.
INFIA is an active participant in many programs centred on reducing food waste, sponsored by international organizations (Save the Food, Love Food Hate Waste, Wrap, etc.).
