GOGO Cold Rooms

First South Africa coldstore with phytosantitary treatments

Problems in the transport and logistics of fruit movement in South Africa is a recurring problem, the ports have been one of the main sticking points in recent years.

The GOGO group have been working towards lessening the pressure on ports at the height of the grape and citrus seasons.

The solution - the first in-land cold room facility in South Africa which handles it's own phytosantitary and cold treatment requirements for special markets such as China, India, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and many more.

The facility is capable of complying with the cold treatment protocols for markets such as– China, Japan, Israel, Thailand, Taiwan, Iran, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Jordan, Sudan, Zambia, Madagascar, Reunion, and India. Growers and exporters alike will now be able to dramatically reduce the risk of any delays, often faced in the harbours.

GOGO Coldrooms now has a total capacity of 3 000 pallets. 600 pallets can undergo sterile treatment for special markets per 4-day cycle and they can now load in excess of 70 containers per day.

GOGO is very much geared towards being environmentally responsible. The company believes in giving back to the environment. One of our first steps to creating large-scale green sustainability was taken when GOGO Cold Rooms invested in a 3 440m2 solar panel plant which will generate the electricity needed to power the entire facility.

It is the first cold store in South Africa to offer this type of facility, "Capetown and Durban ports are hopelessly congested at the height of the season, especially last year with the extra controls for CBS on the citrus exports. All necessary protocols and requirements take place inside our facility with the help of onsite PPECB and DAFF inspectors who oversee the loading process, containers are loaded at our facility and then loaded directly onto the vessels thereafter," explains Johan Coetzer, Operational Manager, GOGO Cold Rooms.

GOGO has a special focus on the Far East market and continues to expand and adapt according to the markets needs.
