Schiavone Group - Fruit Logistica, Hall 4.2 - Stand B-14

Growth in exports of Italian seedless grapes

Schiavone Group, a company established in 1956 and which has been exporting table grapes for over 20 years, will take part to Fruit Logistica.

"The beginning of the season was very good as quality was excellent and the prices of Vittoria and Black Magic grapes were medium-high.The situation changed when the Italia and Red Globe varieties arrived though, as prices never really took off and the rainy period in early autumn affected quality and therefore prices."

According to company managers, the market is increasingly preferring seedless grapes, especially in Scandinavia, England and Germany. "Whereas Eastern Europe still considers prices and therefore prefers grapes from Turkey and similar countries."

Schiavone Group was really affected by Spanish competition during September-October 2013, as the quality of seedless grapes was very good and prices were 15-20% lower. "In November 2013, people bought both Italian and Spanish seedless grapes but, if we look back to 2012 and 2011, we can see how the Italian produce was the most popular."

There were no big innovations in 2013, apart from the introduction of some new seedless varieties. As regards sales, 15% of the produce was sold domestically (10% with seeds and 5% seedless), whereas 85% was sold abroad (75% seedless).

Schiavone Group will attend Fruit Logistica 2014 (Berlin, 5th-7th February) at Hall 4.2 - Stand B-14. "This year, we will present or organic range."
