Fairtrasa expands offering of premium processed fruits
Fairtrasa is a social enterprise that lifts small scale farmers out of poverty through its innovative development model and global sales network. Grower cooperatives in Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru offer their premium organic and fairtrade produce directly to European markets through Fairtrasa's channels.
Agrojugos Fairtrasa produces purées, juices, aseptic and IQF (individual quick freeze) products. It specializes in processing mangos and passion fruit, and will soon expand to bananas, avocados and sweet potatoes. At full capacity, Agrojugos Fairtrasa will employ 200 staff from the local community.
Agrojugos Fairtrasa expands the product offering of Fairtrasa's farmers by converting their non export produce into high quality processed fruit. "The support of small scale farmers is at the heart of Fairtrasa's business. I'm very pleased about this joint venture as for the first time we will be in a position to utilize every piece of fruit from the orchards of our farmers. With this we reduce waste and considerably increase the income of small scale growers", says Patrick Struebi, Fairtrasa's CEO and Founder.
The state of the art asceptic processing plant is the second of its kind in Latin America. Agrojugos Fairtrasa's products will be exported to all major markets in Europe, the US and in Asia. "The processed fruit market is growing due to increased awareness of health and nutrition and a rising demand for convenient meals. We recognized an opportunity to strengthen Fairtrasa's frozen and processed fruit offering in response to this trend, while continuing to support small scale farmers", says Bareld Kootstra, head of Fairtrasa Sustainable Foods B.V., based in Holland.
Agrojugos Fairtrasa is a joint venture between the Fairtrasa Group and Grupo Camposur, who has over 20 years of experience in manufacturing superior fruit products in Peru.
