As of January 2014, Del Monte France has decided to unload their shipments of bananas from Cameroon at the Port of Dunkerque, calling on the shipping service PC Hebdo of CMA CGM which delivers to Europe from the West coast of Africa.

This decision has come at the same time as they announce the opening of Del Monte's first ripening department in France, which will be at the Rungis International Market (94). From the 2nd January, Del Monte will be able to distribute bananas once they are yellow thanks to the new 3,000m² distribution centre. The total capacity for the ripening department while be 27,000 tonnes of bananas per year.

Christine Cabau Woehrel, Chairwoman of the board for the Port of Dunkerque explains: ''This timely decision from the Del Monte group justifies our viewpoint of the port of Dunkerque's strategic importance in the strategic French sector of fresh produce''.
