New short day strawberry varieties from Hargreaves

Hargreaves Plants and the University of Ancona Italy have combined the strengths of both organisations to bring a range of new short day strawberry varieties to market.

Prof Bruno Mezzetti, the breeder at Ancona, has now launched 4 varieties of strawberry; Romina, Cristina, Sveva and Adria. The master licences are being managed by Hargreaves Plants adding to their extensive package of berry fruit varieties being protected and marketed worldwide.

Prof Bruno Mezzetti stated "Our breeding program is making terrific progress for fresh market short day varieties with an additional focus on breeding human health benefits into cultivars. We are delighted with the market penetration so far for Romina and Cristina in particular. The appointment of Hargreaves Plants to manage the intellectual property has added great commercial focus to the program and will enable our varieties to enter many new markets."
