First Dutch covered fresh market in Rotterdam

Once the site of an ancient farm, now the designated lot for the first covered fresh market in the Netherlands. The spectacular building in Rotterdam accommodates fresh and catering businesses, apartments and parking. 4.5 million visitors are expected each year. Ad Berends of Imagro explains.

"Almost every major city has a covered food market. Consider the fresh market of Valencia or Copenhagen where you can go for the freshest produce every day. Market Hall Rotterdam goes one step further by adding more to your shopping experience, including the ability to consume a snack or a drink. The market hall is synonymous with pure and honest food offered in every conceivable form."

The market floor, which will be open seven days a week from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, is at the heart of Rotterdam Market Hall. Fresh food will be offered in a hundred outlets, complemented with flowers and plants. All industries will be present; from bakeries, greengrocers and fishmongers to olives and tapas. Ad says that companies like Koppert Cress, Nature's Pride and Banken Champigons have shown interest in a place on the market floor.

The new building should be finished by October next year.
