"Jan van Heijningen: "We are ten years ahead of the average customer is experiencing"
Eminent Seeds seed sales double annually
During the PMA in New Orleans Jan van Heijningen and Joke Kras of Eminent Seeds presented the newest speciality varieties for the worldwide greenhouse cultivation. The company can now supply enough seed for the commercial cultivation of around fifty different exclusive greenhouse vegetables. "We started a commercial seed breeding company from our nursery 15 years ago. We have needed around ten years to gain experience and develop commercial varieties, and we started selling seeds three years ago. The volumes has doubled every year over the last few years!"

The new Eminent Seeds catalogue shows a wide choice of varieties that define themselves in shape and colour. When asked whether people don't grow tired of all those new varieties, Jan replies: "People never grow tired of it. What we view as normal is a surprise for a lot of people. We are ten years ahead of what the average consumer experiences. Here in the United States there is not one company that focussed purely on the specialities, but it will happen. All the big boys already have commercial trials of our varieties in their greenhouses."
Jan indicates a large increase in the cherry tomatomix in recent years, consisting of pink, purple, red, brown, yellow, orange and white cherry tomatoes, supplement with the green and red tiger varieties. "In peppers the area of baby pointed peppers almost doubles annually. Another big development is the the first hybrid habanero. This is a great addition to our assortment in the future. The hybrid habanero has a production increase of at least 30% and even 50% in some places."
