"Kenneth Meyer: "Organic production increasingly important"
Natural Tropic invests in production area of 45 hectares for mango and avocado production
Since last year Natural Tropic owns a production area of 45 hectares which has been newly planted. "This is one of the largest fields of mango's and avocado's in Spain. This field will be certified 100% organic, but we shall also continue to sell a small conventional amount. Our sales have grown by more than 25% per year and that is why we have invested in an additional 45 hectares," said Kenneth.
He explained that at the moment Spanish mango availability is good, but that there is less volume on the market than last year. "We currently offer the Osteen variety in both conventional and organic. In the organic market there is a lot of call for it. The prices lie around €11.50/4kg delivered in the Netherlands. At this moment the market for normal Osteen is a bit slow, due to the high prices, but this is mainly because of the amount of large sized fruit which comes from us. I personally think that the market in October will again become more attractive for us."
The most important organic market for Natural Tropic is the United Kingdom, France, Denmark and Germany. When asked whether the choice for an organic product came from idealistic or commercial reasons, Kenneth answered: "Organic is my personal ideal. To eat as healthily and safely as possible is for an organic grower very important. But from a commercial point of view demand has also grown and therefore the organic crop is an important part of our sales."
