Dow AgroSciences launches Delegate® 250 WG pesticide

Dow AgroSciences LLC, subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company and based in Indianapolis, United States, is a global leader in the supply of phytosanitary products for the improvement of the quality and quantity of food items in the planet. It has approximately 6,000 employees in more than 50 countries.

A clear example of Dow AgroSciences' success is its latest launch this year; the new Delegate® 250 WG pesticide, whose main active ingredient is spinetoram.

Spinetoram represents a significant advance in the handling of pests through spinosine technology. It is of a more active and persistent nature in a wider action spectrum than spinosad, while maintaining a favourable toxicologic and environmental profile.

After the discovery of spinosad, Dow AgroSciences continued researching the possibility to develop new pesticides of the spinosine group. The use of a new technique, the artificial neural network (ANN), led to the identification of two structural modifications which increase the effectiveness of spinetoram compared to that of spinosad, improving the photostability. At the same time, they penetrate better through the insect's cuticle. These improvements make it more effective against insect pests.

Delegate® 250 WG is being registered in Europe for its use in fruit and olive trees and Radiant® SC for vineyard and table grapes. The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture also granted an exceptional authorisation for the use of Delegate® 250 WG in cherry trees to tackle the D. Suzukii and in pear trees against psila.

Spinetoram has shown to be an excellent combination of pesticide action and persistence, while maintaining low toxicity levels in mammals and short environmental persistence.

Delegate® 250 WG, which has already become popular in the market, presents itself as a successful solution for growers.

Dow AgroSciences will be an exhibitor at the prestigious Fruit Attraction fair, in Madrid, where it will present this product and demonstrate its benefits. "We will be delighted to clarify any doubts regarding its properties or mode of use to anyone interested," concludes Jesús Ignacio Encinas, Food Chain manager at Dow AgroSciences.
