70% of Peruvian organic bananas shipped to Europe
During the 2012 season, Peruvian organic banana exports reached a total of approximately 6,990,000 boxes; an average of 150,000 boxes per week.
Europe stood out as the main destination with almost 70% of all shipments, followed by North American and the Far East, according to data provided by Fresh Cargo Peru in its report "Organic Banana Statistic Analysis 2012".
In the European market, the Port of Rotterdam received the most imports, while in the United States the main point of entry was the Port of San Diego.
In terms of varieties, the Green banana registered a weekly average of 60,000 boxes exported.
The report elaborated by Fresh Cargo Peru contains detailed information on the behaviour of the organic banana industry in Peru during 2012, through a statistic analysis taking into account the following variables:
