Jan Franje:

"Netherlands: "Onion sets more work than we're used to"

The sale of onion sets is going reasonably well. "The start of the week is always calm, but the end of the week is busier every time. There's not really one country that stands out in sales, we're selling some everywhere," says Jan Franje of sorting and packaging station Franje Onions from Waarde. "The harvest amounts are slightly disappointing, as is the quality."

The bail price is at a level of around 28 cents at the moment. "There is a slightly lower price predicted for next week, but we'll have to see how it turns out. The price expectations are high and everyone has their own prediction, but we'll just have to wait and see. However, it is clear that the volume of coarse onions will be a lot lower," says Jan.
