RTP is replacing single trip packaging products

Sustainability is increasingly important and with Government legislation to lower carbon footprints, fresh produce suppliers and distributors are looking for ways to improve on both these points. UK company PHS Teacrate may have the solution.

Returnable Transit Packaging (RTP) is replacing single trip packaging products (such as cardboard) as the preferred carrier for transporting food products. PHS Teacrate, with eight depots throughout the UK, have the infrastructure as well as the products to offer a cost effective solution. Ruth Scruton, Marketing Manager at the company explains, "These days the bottom line counts, our products are ready to use, there is no assembly which you can get with cardboard, the crates can be used over and over again, they are also ergonomically designed so have less health and safety issues." Companies can also purchase crates complete with logo and in a choice of colours.

The company has a wash depot in the Midlands, where they wash rental RTP including plastic pallets, customers can also bring their own crates and pallets to the plant to be washed.

PHS Teacrate's infrastructure is the main advantage which the company has, according to Scruton, "We can deliver rental crates and trays next day with no minimum order, sometimes even same day, this is especially handy in busy times of the year such as Christmas and harvest time."
