The import comes mainly from Poland and Spain. These countries combined are worth over 85% of the total import of 9.3 million kilos in 2011. The Polish raspberry (over 5.5 million kilos) is mainly destined for processing and the Spanish (over 2.4 million kilos in 2011) is mainly for fresh consumption.
This consumption comes to a peak in Holland and Germany in the third quarter. The fruits are also eaten throughout the rest of the year. A third of the consumers in both countries eat this soft fruit as a snack, the PT's Fruit and Vegetable Monitor shows. In Holland breakfast, lunch and dessert are each worth around 20%. The German consumer tends to eat more raspberries for breakfast (over 25%) and less often as a dessert (15%).
