Spring White garlic, of Amefruits.
Additionally, Mira says that, "the quality is truly excellent this year," although prices at the moment are low, even lower than those for the Chinese produce, as they oscillate between 0.50 and 0.70 Euro per kilo at source. "We estimate that it will take three months for the current surplus production to be sold so that prices can increase again. Many producers are selling their garlic at ridiculous prices just to get rid of that surplus, causing prices to plunge," added Mira.
Based in the town of Orihuela, in the Spanish province of Alicante, Amefruits S.L. has its own plantations and contracted producers, controlling a total of 80 hectares. It is devoted to the export of garlic of the Spanish purple, Spring Violet and White varieties, and during the off-season, to the import of Chinese and Argentinian garlic.
Furthermore, at the moment the firm also sells stone fruit and Andalusian fresh vegetables, "with sights set on the development of commercial relationships between Spain and the rest of the world, prioritizing quality as the main goal," he added.
Under the brands THE NATURAL and AMEFRUITS, the products are packed in nets of 200, 250 and 500 grams, in 10 kilo boxes or loose, depending on the needs and demands of the client. They are exported mainly to Italy and France, and also to markets such as Germany, Portugal, South Africa and some Caribbean regions through partners.
