“It's been cooler, so it's affected our crops a bit,” said Danny Pulcinelli of Del Fresco Produce. “Some tomatoes remained longer on the vine, so they were a bit bigger, but it's been a normal season for the rest of our line.” Though he noted a slight dip in volumes of beefsteak tomatoes, all other volumes were normal. Prices are at normal levels, and Pulcinelli said that's a good thing when compared to last year.
“Market conditions are more favorable than last year,” said Pulcinelli. “It's what we're used to getting, so we're happy to be back up from last year.”

George Gilvesy, general manager for Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, also agreed that this year has been better than the last. While he reported some snags concerning peppers, most of the year has gone off without a hitch.
“Markets for tomatoes and cucumbers have been much better than they were last year, though the pepper market has been somewhat trying,” said Gilvesy. He attributed the pepper situation to a conflux of competitive market factors, but he was optimistic about all other aspects of the season.
“Though the season started later than normal because of weather, crop quality has been exceptional,” said Gilvesy. “We're excited about what growers are putting out there.”
