France: Iceberg lettuce supplies reach peak levels

Supplies of Prince de Bretagne's Iceberg lettuce have reached peak levels this week, and production of the lettuce is expected to continue through October.

Harvesting of the lettuce began earlier this year, and planting was designed specifically so that supplies would peak during Summer and last through October. The lettuce, a variety of Batavia lettuce, is crunchy and refreshing, which makes it ideal for warm Summer months. It's also cooled beginning at the packing station and right through the shipping process, ensuring that the product arrives fresh in stores.

Prince de Bretagne offers the lettuce in five-kilogram boxes containing size 10 heads of lettuce. With each head weighing nearly 500 grams, and with the heads prepared so that there's no waste, the product is very economical. In addition to conventional heads of lettuce, organic Iceberg lettuce is also available.
