Spain: Cultivar continues focusing on avocados
After a successful start of the South African and Brazilian avocado campaigns, the Spanish firm Cultivar has begun its imports of Peruvian Hass avocados.
This is one of Cultivar's most important campaigns, with a total of more than 220 containers imported from Peru, South Africa, Brazil and Chile, and which will later be completed with the domestic avocado production.
"The first container with Peruvian avocados arrived on week 17 and we are able to unload an average of 7 to 10 containers per week," explains Joan Pascual, of Cultivar.
"Cultivar has been an avocado distributor for 40 years and is very familiar with the product, its qualities and its market. Over the past few years, we have constantly evolved to meet market trends," he affirms.
"We have also developed our own avocado brand, COZUMEL. As always, we only work with the most reputable producers, who own fully certified plantations and are sufficiently prepared to offer us the qualities that our brand requires."
The avocado market is growing larger every day in Spain. "Consumption has significantly increased in recent years and we think that it is still in full expansion," he points out. "Avocados are a very versatile fruit, with a neutral flavour and a wide variety of culinary applications. It is also a product with interesting beneficial properties for our bodies. On the one hand, it regulates cholesterol levels with its oleic acid and monounsaturated fats, and on the other hand, it is rich in proteins, carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins and minerals."
