Netherlands: SPAR Online for easy shopping
Test villages
“We don’t really refer to seven test stores in our SPAR Online pilot but seven test villages” explains Sjaak Kranendonk, managing director of SPAR Netherlands. “This new convenience service will generate the necessary experience. We intend to fully involve the consumers in these test villages and suburbs in our pilot. We are keen to learn how we can offer more convenience.”
National network
Sjaak Kranendonk continues, “Through the network of SPAR and Attent stores which we have nationwide, we have more than 400 mini distribution centres and collection points. Almost all of our independent retailers already deliver groceries to companies and consumers from their existing ranges. This is generally handled by means of telephone, fax, e-mail or shopping lists. Via ‘SPAR Online’ grocery shopping will truly become convenient.”
Daily
The product assortment featured on SPAR Online will be the same as in each store, with pricing also the same. Sjaak Kranendonk said “the reason that consumers like to be able to order online is for convenience. The consumer can determine whether the order should be delivered or collected. SPAR is the neighbourhood store for daily convenience. For the modern consumer, online shopping is part of this lifestyle.”
Differentiation
SPAR Online differentiates from similar shopping services because the products are selected directly from the instore stock available. In this way it is possible to meet requirements locally with the advantage of speed and the quality of the items is monitored by the independent retailer. The minimum order value is considerably lower than that of direct competitors. Collection can be done at no additional charge whilst delivery is free for orders above the value of €50.
Below this value, consumers can ask for delivery at a standard fee of €4.95
Same day
“Our independent retailers are already used to delivering groceries. This new service improves the professional approach and provides a user-friendly ordering site to customers. During the weeks of the trial, we will be investigating whether it will be possible to deliver goods the same day as ordering. As a rule, the current delivery services already are able to meet this demand,” continues Sjaak Kranendonk.
Locations
The test pilot will run in these locations: Heelsum, Haps, Vogelenzang, Hoogwoud, Waddinxveen, Milsbeek en Wageningen.
