The success and proper functioning of an agricultural or horticultural firm can be achieved, in part, with a proper management, from production to sale, and a good monitoring of all the necessary data to ensure that the right decisions are made at all times. Alter Software, a firm from Lleida, Spain, has made this task much easier and efficient thanks to its integrated system.
It is an ERP specialised in the horticultural sector for the management of every aspect of the firm, created for producers, exporters and distributors, and even with POS terminals for those with on-line shops.
"Normally firms end up using several programs to manage different stages of the chain, which often results in duplicated data and costly information exchanges; Alter Software provides computerised management tools for the entire trading chain, from the production and traceability to the packing of the product, up until the final sale, all linked to one completely integrated accounting system, thereby facilitating the management of every single detail," explains Marina Aguilera, Commercial Area Director of Alter Software.
"We have been working with Java technology for over ten years, so clients can access the application with a simple browser and Internet connection, without having to rely on external servers or remote desktop connections. It is much more comfortable for our clients, whose security and confidentiality are fully guaranteed."

Among the latest additions we can highlight a more visually attractive environment, with graphics and diagrams for an easier, more intuitive use, both for the management teams as well as the warehouse and shipping workers.
"We find it essential for information to be registered at the place where it is produced," points out Marina Aguilera. "If information is stored at the time and place it is generated, there is a lower risk of information loss and the entire process becomes optimised. This way, the program can adapt to the tasks of every worker, without the need to give them access to the entire program. "Clients who have already tried it have stressed how easy it is to use, as well as the precision of the information about everything going on in the warehouse."
Another addition is a strengthening in the area of packaging and materials, with greater control, especially on leased packaging. "Working with leases or rentals is hard because of the amount of control they require. A lot of money can be lost without proper management, so we try making it as easy as possible by creating links with the platforms which granted us permission. Just by accessing the system you can post any data regarding returns or stocks, and files are generated at the same time with all the data required by rental firms."
The advances made in plantation management are also noteworthy, controlling all costs and applications, treatments and working methods for each season at all times. "This information will help producers in their future decisions," she affirms.
"For now, we are only selling the program to Spanish firms, although we would have no problem exporting it overseas, as the only requirement would be the addition of certificates meeting the country's taxing rules and accounting standards, because all our programs are multi-enterprise, multi-language and multi-currency," adds Marina.
Besides the great level of detail in information storage provided by this software, the service provided is also noteworthy. "The firm's long experience in the horticultural sector and its philosophy ruled by order and simplicity are Alter Software's best assets," she concludes.
