"With the campaign over, we can talk about a good foreign market and satisfying prices. What is more, thanks to great storability and an excellent quality up to the end of January, FMG has managed to extend marketability by 2-3 weeks. The main destinations were the United Kingdom, France and European markets in general."
Abate Fetel
"It is still being marketed, and will be until the first half of March. The stock has been low since January and prices have been rising lately thanks to a growth in demand connected to the lack of other varieties. The quality and storability is excellent. The main market is the German one, but Abate pears also sell well in East Europe, Russia and overseas."
Conference
"The stock is average, in line with past years, thus confirming a market that will start from March to May. Therefore, we will have a good quality product until May. Prices are stable, but we are expecting them to increase. Italy is the reference market, and especially the Centre and the South as Conference pears, which are more delicate than the Dutch ones, are not really suitable for exports."
Kaiser
"Kaiser pears will be marketed until the beginning of April. Quotations are good but stable. There is little, good quality produce, but FMG has started marketing only in January. Prices are expected to rise in the next weeks as demand will grow. Kaiser pears are appreciated especially in Germany, Scandinavia and East-Europe.
Decana
"Low stock and rising quotations for Decana pears, which will be marketed until the first weeks of March. The quality is good on the whole, although there have been a few problems concerning russeting and some signs of scratching made by branches because of strong winds during Spring. This variety too is sold in Italy, France and Eastern countries."
Minor varieties
"Thanks to the lack of produce, Passa Crassana, Packham's and other minor varieties of pears have also been doing well."
For this year, FMG is expecting an export turnover of +10% (EU and outside EU) with respect to its normal trend. A proof that the company is pushing towards international markets.
