Belgium: Hoogstraten Auction introduces strawberry shaker

During Fruit Logistica 2013 Hoogstraten presented its new strawberry packaging: the strawberry shaker. This special snack pack will be available this spring. Commercial manager Jan Engelen added that the shaker is also being marketed with kiwi berries. "More and more people are snacking healthy, and our packaging makes it even easier. The shaker will contain a small amount of strawberries. Trial shipments to Belgian retailers have been well received."

Hoogstraten expects a growing number of strawberries this season. "Last year we closed with 31 million pounds, and this year we expect another increase. Starting next year we plan to offer the strawberries year-round. With new growers growing strawberries under lighting, we can supply throughout the year. This is especially interesting for niche markets.”
