Colombia went from being a troubled country to be seen as a rising star, as the land of opportunity. So much so that foreign investment has grown dramatically, about 10 years ago $ 2 billion a year were being invested in this country and in 2012 it was about U.S. $ 16 billion.
What is their opinion concerning the environmental problems and mining sector strikes?
Investors are confident that this is a serious country that overcomes its problems. A country that dialogues and has given them many reasons to realize that it is a good country to choose; with clear, stable, rules that are followed.
What do you think about the fear some sectors have expressed about the future entry of European products into the country?
That is a valid concern and a very respectable position, we must be very careful. The FTA does grant access to the products of European dairy producers, but there are also mechanisms to protect the local industry. I know that the Government will be giving a lot of support to them regarding this issue.
Which regions will benefit the most?
It's very beneficial to Barranquilla in particular, to the Atlantic area because of its geographical location. Colombian entrepreneurs can look at Barranquilla as the ideal place to locate their production plants.
Are there any business meetings being set up?
British business delegations are coming almost every week to check all sectors, and it is because they see a strong economy, a consolidating middle class, an increase in purchasing capacity, a full democracy and a more consolidated security.
What sectors will have easier access to the EU?
