Italy: First Italian kiwis to Korea by Ceradini Group

Established in 1975 the Ceradini Group in Verona (joint venture of Ceradini B&C, Kingkiwi and Kingfruit) has secured a contract for the first Kiwi cargo to South Korea, a brand new market for Italian agricultural products.

Massimo Ceradini said, “We've privately sent a Hayward Kiwi shipment to a South Korean importer, in refrigerated containers that will arrive in 35 days (end of February), in order to be distributed to large-scale retail.”

On January 23rd 2013, a strict inspection was made by a Korean inspector, supported by an interpreter and an officer of the phytosanitary Service of Veneto.

Massimo explains, “All stores have been attentively controlled together with the product layout in the loading area and sampling of the fruit ready to be exported."

At the end of the inspection, the pallets of kiwis were loaded in the refrigerated containers and sent by road to Venice Port.

In week 5, the second and last dispatch of the season will set out.

Massimo Ceradini (photo up above) says, “We see this new challenge as a future investment. Thanks to the CSO (Horticultural Service Center in Ferrara) support and coordination, the Italian Kiwi is a hit in a the new market."

Ceradini Group adds South Korea to it's already rich trade destination booklet. “Kiwi-export counts for 80% of our sales,” explains Massimo, “and 30% of the export is to non-EU members.”

The forecast for this season volume is of 8000 tons of kiwi, “It's a 12% increase compared to last year. Market quotations are higher than the 2011/2012 season, but not as expected in the light of the general product shortage.”

“Greek competition is felt anywhere. This country has today reached it's peak in production, with 100,000 tons of kiwi,” ends Massimo.
