"Italy: "Period of calm for marketing of lemons"
Michele Ruocco, commented the current progress of the lemon campaign. "The climate has influenced the production cycle, confirms Michele. The high temperatures recorded in October, November and December 2012 have delayed the lemon ripening, which tends to remain green. This has caused problems in the marketing phase."
"Currently, the production variety is the 'Primofiore', by the end of February we will start with the Sfusato Amalfi," declares Michele, adding that, regarding the marketing situation, currently there is a period of total calm. "The supply is high and the demand is low. The lemon price varies depending on the product quality."
The main market for Lemon Sud is Italy. "We pack the product in bulk, in cardboard or plastic, from 5 to 10 kg with leaf, which enhances the lemon," says Michele.
Looking at the future, Michele concludes, "At the moment, the expectation for 2013 is not the best one, but we are confident in a recovery of the Italian economy."
