The banana market has improved since the first week of the new year. That is what an European importer tells us. "There are fewer bananas coming in and it will stay like that for the coming months. This has had an immediate impact on prices. It is not that the demand is 'hot' right away, but there is an upward trend.
The price level of green bananas is around 14 to 15 Euro, which is slightly higher than last year. "The main difference is that prices are increasing a bit faster." According to the importer, snow and the frost have had little influence on banana sales in the supermarkets. "It tends to increase, if anything. It's tougher for 'market vendors' in these temperatures, but their sales have been declining anyway."
